Advancement

Rank progression in the Naval Sea Cadet Corps is earned through a combination of coursework, demonstrated knowledge, time in rate, and successful completion of required trainings. Each rank sets out specific coursework, examinations, and training requirements that a cadet must complete before being eligible for promotion.

As you advance, expectations grow: higher ranks require greater leadership, military bearing, and mastery of seamanship and navigation topics. Your instructors will guide you through the coursework for your next rank and confirm when you have met every requirement.

Physical Readiness

The Physical Readiness Test (PRT) is administered twice a year and measures the fitness level expected of every cadet. Cadets should prepare throughout the year with regular exercise rather than training only before the test.

The table below outlines the PRT events. Because official standards were not supplied, the values are marked “To be confirmed” and will be updated once the current official standards are provided.

Uniform and Grooming

A sharp, consistent appearance reflects pride in the corps. Grooming standards cover hair length, neatness, and personal appearance, and apply whenever a cadet is in uniform. Follow the guidance issued by your instructors for the exact standards in effect for our division.

Uniform care keeps your gear inspection-ready: clean and press uniforms, polish boots and brass, and store items correctly between drills. Building and maintaining your seabag means keeping every required item clean, serviceable, and accounted for at every drill and training.

Recruit Training

Recruit Training is the first training every cadet must complete. It is an immersive, military-style orientation that introduces drill, military bearing, seamanship, teamwork, and the core traditions of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps. Expect early mornings, structured days, physical activity, and close attention to detail.

Come prepared: review your packing list well in advance, break in your boots, and arrive physically and mentally ready. The packing-list area below is a placeholder until the unit-specific requirements are confirmed.

Application timing and requirements vary by training and by our unit’s schedule.
